Things to Remember in Collecting Unemployment
Benefits
Being unemployed is never going to be an easy life
again. However, a worker can temporarily avail of his right to
unemployment insurance benefits, which will hopefully handle his
financial problems for a maximum period of 26 weeks.
In order to qualify for this benefit, the claimant is
expected to have actively worked for a valid employer for at least 52
weeks. It is also imposed by the law that the unemployed worker has not
been discharged from his duties under certain counts of misconduct or
misdemeanor. The claimant must also testify that he is actively looking
for work, and that he will not reject any valid job opportunity for the
purpose of keeping his unemployment benefits in its entire duration.
Prior to approval of your applications, you will be
asked to present a valid Social Security Number, which will be verified
by your employment insurance office. You are also required to provide
the complete information and location of your previous employers,
included in this list is the total number of hours that you have
acquired for the job, and the total wage that you have earned for each.
Any part-time opportunities that you have accepted during your period of
unemployment should also be indicated in your application details. Also,
you will be asked to provide further details such as the additional
wages that you have earned under the category of vacation or overtime
pay. Your siblings can also be qualified to be given a certain financial
help apart from your claims, granted that they have also complied with
the imposed requirements of your state on the eligibility of the
immediate family members in your benefits.
If your application has already been approved, you
will begin to receive your weekly compensation a week after the filling,
as the earliest time a worker receives his benefits. You can also
receive benefits using your most preferred method. This could be through
direct deposit service, debit cards, or a bank check.
Remember that you may also apply for unemployment
insurance by mail, phone or any method provided by the employment
insurance agency in your state. By the regular interval that you have
been receiving your weekly compensation, you will be constantly asked if
you have been actively looking for a job. Failure to comply with this
most important factor on claiming your benefits means disqualification
to all your unemployment insurance claims.
Depending on the state where you are located, some
areas may actually require workers availing of this benefit to present
at least three job opportunities that the claimant has pursued for the
past week according to his weekly compensation description.
Consequently, he may also be asked to provide a written record of all
the necessary contact details of these job searches for verification
purposes. If the claimant has failed to meet all of these requirements
even during the time that he has already started collecting his
benefits, he can still be disqualified to avail of these services.
