Tips on How to Claim Unemployment Benefits

If you have been unemployed for too grave a reason, claiming unemployment insurance benefits may be the best option to take care of your financial dilemmas. In the US, almost every state has complied with the provision on collecting unemployment taxes from the employers in order to fund this government's effort to provide instant financial assistance to unemployed workers for a maximum of 52 weeks. Recently, this provision has also been extended by President Bush for up to 7 weeks, which is the latest law on unemployment insurance compensation that has already been executed to most US states.

In order to claim your 26-week compensation, you need to qualify for the following criteria:

First, you should have served a legal employer, as mandated by the law of the United States, for at least 52 weeks, and have done so for at least once in every week of the said duration.

Second, you must prove that you are currently in your best effort to look for a job, where a corresponding document should support your claim, which is basically the name and details of the potential job opportunities that you are currently considering.

Third, it is also expected that you have not left your previous job at strong will that is entirely not related to any work violations that could be rendered a valid reason for resignation in any legal cases.

Fourth, you must not be discharged from your previous job under the grounds of misconduct, or any grave reason that the employer has forced to release your from your duties.

Granted that you have complied with all of the above qualifications, the following application requirements are also necessary in processing your claims:

-Social Security Identification for verification

-Complete contact details of the previous employers that you have worked for and the total number of hours for each

-A comprehensive record of all the collected wages, which also includes vacation pay, etc.

-Records of any temporary jobs that you have accepted while you are unemployed

-Names and birthdates of your siblings, in order to verify if your claim can be extended to your immediate family as well

After you have submitted these requirements to your nearest employment insurance office, you will be assigned a call day wherein your application details will be verified from you. Upon getting an approval, you will be asked to wait for one week at the most, in order to completely process your requirements and claims, respectively. This entire duration will also be necessary in order to register your name and details to the nearest employment service agencies where you can possibly look for a job.

As stated in the law, it is very important that a claimant pursues his job search in order to constantly avail of these benefits at the specified time. The government shall also remind him that in keeping these benefits, he must ensure that he is actively looking for a job, and must not reject any reasonable job offer unless this has been qualified under special cases with which the worker can turn down a job opportunity and still keep his unemployment insurance benefits at the time.
